CIVIL ENGINEERING - CEMENT

CEMENT :-  What is Cement ?
Cement is the binding material. As per IS code 456-2000 :-The cement used shall be any of the following and the type selected should be appropriate for the intended use:
 1)   33 Grade ordinary Portland cement conforming to IS 269.
 2)  43 Grade ordinary Portland cement conforming to IS 8 112.
 3)  53 Grade ordinary Portland cement conforming to IS 12269.
 4)  Rapid hardening Portland cement conforming to IS 8~041.
 5)  Portland slag cement conforming to IS 455.
 6)  Portland pozzolana cement (fly ash based) conforming to IS 1489 (Part 1).
 7)  Portland pozzolana cement (calcined clay based) conforming to IS 1489 (Part 2).
 8)  Hydrophobic cement conforming to IS 8043.
 9)  Low heat Portland cement conforming to IS 12600.
10) Sulphate resisting Portland cement conforming to IS 12330.
                            And Many More.

Cement Testing Tips:-
                                  1) It should feel silky smooth after rubbing
                                  2) when hand is immersed in bag it should feel cool
                                  3) wo2 mo1yo1 [ it indicates 10 days old cement ]
                                  4) No lumps should be observed
                                  5) Avg weight 49.5 kg or 50kg or 50.5 kg  should be observed.
                                  6) Packing should be Polythene bags.
                                  7) Edge of small cubes [ Prepared from paste] gained some strength after                                                    placing  it in water for 24 hrs.
                                  8) It should float for some time before sinking in water
                                  9) Best before 6 month of packing

Cement Facts:-
                               1) Theoretical weight of cement  1440 kg/m3
                               2) One cement bags 50kg = 0.0342m3 [ very important design mix )
                               3) Cement bags loading / unloading by labour can be Rs 2 to Rs 3 per bags [ but it                                     can be varies; 2015]
                               4) Age of cement :- In general , stored cement loses it's strength gradually, with                                          time  ie:- after 3 months = 20% strength is less , after 6 month =30% strength                                        is less (which is not acceptable for concrete), after a year = 40% strength is                                            less (which is not acceptable for concrete).

Cement bags Consumption :-
                                   1) R.C.C  [1:2:4]    =   6.00 bags  per 1cum
                                   2) R.C.C  [1:1.5:3] =  7.77 bags  per 1cum

                                   3)  UCR   [ 1:6]        =  1.60 bags per 1cum
                                   4)  BBM   [ 1:6]   9"    =  0.27 bags per 1cum
                                   5)  BBM   [ 1:4]   4"     =  0.11 bags per 1cum

                                   6) PLASTER [1:4] 12mm thk     =  0.16 bags per 1sqm
                                   7) PLASTER [1:6]  12mm thk    =  0.11 bags per 1sqm
                                   8) PLASTER [1;4]  20 mm thk   =  0.26 bags per 1sqm
                                   9) PLASTER [1;6]  20 mm thk   =  0.17 bags per 1sqm

                             10) FLOORING TILES  [25cm x 25cm]  mosaic tiles =  0.11 bags per 1sqm
                             11) IPS flooring    =  0.38 bags per 1sqm

Please feel free to ask more on cement ... Good LUCK
